This year marks the 10th anniversary of Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s partnership with Camp Sunshine, which is a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. In 2015, through donations big and small, Tropical Smoothie Cafe was able to reach its goal of donating $1 Million dollars to Camp Sunshine…so let’s help do it again in 2016!
Last weekend, the boys and I stopped for lunch at Tropical Smoothie Cafe and made a donation of our own. While we waited for our food, the kids and I looked at the brochures on the tables and talked about the camp, the families that get to go there, and why it is such an important project. They were curious, attentive, and excited to participate.
My normally shy children each took their $5 bills and handed them to the cashier with the specific instructions that their money should go to Camp Sunshine. It was such a proud Mamma moment, and it was a simple but powerful lesson for the kids.
I highly encourage all of you to join the cause! You can nominate your own family or another family to receive hope and support for a child with a life-threatening illness from Camp Sunshine.
You’ll want to start the application process by visiting https://tropicalsmoothiecafe.com/sharethesunshine, and inform the nominated family that they will receive an email asking them to fill out a Camp Sunshine Official Application in order to be considered.
The nominated family must fill out the Camp Sunshine application and return it via mail, fax, or email. Camp Sunshine will determine families that fit the established criteria.
Nominations for the contest will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. ET on May 1, 2016 until 11:59 p.m. ET on June 30, 2016.

What exactly is National Flip Flop Day?! National Flip Flop Day® is Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s annual holiday, every third Friday in June, when the restaurant celebrates its customers and raises funds to benefit its charity partner Camp Sunshine. All customers wearing flip-flops will receive a FREE 24-ounce Jetty Punch Smoothie from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. on June 17!
Oh, and while you’re there — order some food, too! The kids LOVED their combo meals: quesadillas, chips, and smoothies!
The older boys went with the Jetty Junior (a combination of strawberries and banana), while Spence enjoyed his Awesome Orange (that thing was GOOD)!!
My Thai Chicken Salad hit the spot, too. I loved the spicy-sweet Thai peanut dressing, as well as the crispy strips of wonton throughout. YUM!
We left our lunch date with full tummies and happy hearts — this is SUCH a worthy cause and I truly hope that you’ll take the time to support Camp Sunshine as well!
